A scenic, mostly flat riverside walk through oak woodland, gravel bars, and historic gold-mining tailings—perfect for easy mileage, birding, and river views.

Sailor Bar Access, off Illinois Ave (Fair Oaks). Multiple dirt/gravel spurs along the river; your event route (~4–5 miles) stays mostly level on service roads and riverside paths.

Easy • Allow 1.5–2 hours with photo stops. Surfaces range from packed dirt to river rock; wear sturdy shoes.

🏺 A short history of Sailor Bar
The American River has supported people for thousands of years, including Nisenan (Southern Maidu) communities along its fertile floodplain. During the Gold Rush and into the early 20th century, Sailor Bar and nearby Sacramento Bar were heavily mined—first by hand, then by massive bucket dredges. Local lore says the name comes from sailors who left their ships to try their luck here. The rounded rock “tailings” you see today are the landscape’s living record of that era.

- Yield to horses & give anglers space; pack out all trash.
- Dogs on leash where posted; watch for goathead thorns on gravel.

Building an AI Product That Benefits Your Business • AI for Business Workshop
Glissando AI founder Amin Rabinia explains how to evaluate, design, and build AI products that solve real business problems instead of becoming expensive experiments.
Artificial intelligence has made it easier than ever to build software, but being able to build something does not necessarily mean it is worth building. This AI for Business Workshop focuses on the decisions that come before development: identifying useful ideas, defining the problem, designing the product, and understanding how it will actually fit into a working business.
Amin Rabinia, founder of Glissando AI, will walk through how AI products move from concept to implementation and why some projects that look impressive in a demonstration fail once they encounter real customers, workflows, costs, and business requirements. He will also share examples from systems he has built for founders and businesses, including projects that worked and others that had to be redesigned.
The workshop is designed for business owners considering AI and founders developing AI products. Staying informed about what’s happening in your community is an important part of being civically engaged. The City of Citrus Heights invites residents, businesses and community members to attend the 2026 State of the City address on Thursday, November 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The annual event offers an opportunity to learn about the City’s progress, priorities and plans for the future. Whether you’re interested in local projects, community programs or the direction of Citrus Heights, attending the State of the City is one way to stay connected to your local government and understand the work happening in your community.
The program will feature a look back on the year with Mayor MariJane Lopez-Taff and a look ahead at the City’s future with City Manager Ashley J. Feeney.
The State of the City address is free and open to everyone. No ticket is required to attend the program. Community members are encouraged to join their neighbors, learn more about their city and take an active role in local civic life.
Optional Welcome Reception Before the Event
The City is also partnering with the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce to host an optional, ticketed Welcome Reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the City Hall Lobby. Attendees can enjoy bites from local eateries, beer and wine and an opportunity to connect with City officials, business representatives and other community leaders before the program begins.
Early bird tickets are $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-Chamber members. Beginning November 3, and at the door, tickets will be $35 for Chamber members and $45 for non-Chamber members.

About the Guild Theater Tap to expand
The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.
The Guild Theater in Sacramento is a cherished cultural venue that has long played a significant role in the local arts scene.

SMS Teen, in partnership with the City of Sacramento's SacTown Youth Nights, is coming soon.
This is a natural next step in our work. We’re creating consistent, welcoming spaces for ages 12–18 with fun, learning, movement, creativity, and leadership built in, all grounded in safety and belonging.
We’ve seen what’s possible when young people have structure and trusted relationships through programs like EmpowerME Preschool & Childcare and our Men's Mentoring Team. Now we’re extending that foundation into the teen years. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!

Men's Mentoring Team
Single Mom Strong’s Men’s Mentoring Program creates sustained, healthy relationships between caring, positive male role models and school-aged children of single moms. Mentors are screened, trained and supported to meet regularly and consistently with mentees, for about 2.5 hours each month, throughout the school year. Join the monthly discussion of Asha Lemmie’s Fifty Words for Rain, a historical novel exploring family expectations, race, identity, belonging, and one young woman’s struggle for independence in postwar Japan.
The Sylvan Oaks Adult Book Group meets on the second Saturday of each month for conversation about a wide range of authors, subjects, and perspectives. October’s selection is Fifty Words for Rain by Asha Lemmie.
The novel follows Noriko “Nori” Kamiza, a biracial girl growing up in postwar Japan after being abandoned by her mother and sent to live with her wealthy grandparents. Because her father was an African American serviceman, Nori is treated as an embarrassment to the family and kept largely hidden from the outside world.
Nori’s isolated life begins to change when she forms a bond with her older half-brother, Akira. Their relationship gives her a glimpse of a life beyond the rigid expectations and prejudice surrounding her, setting in motion a story about family, identity, belonging, freedom, and the cost of challenging tradition.
The November discussion takes place in the Sylvan Oaks Meeting Room as part of the library’s monthly adult book group. Readers can expect a conversation that reaches across the novel’s postwar Japanese setting into its treatment of race, family loyalty, social expectations, resilience, and personal independence.

This is a natural next step in our work. We’re creating consistent, welcoming spaces for ages 12–18 with fun, learning, movement, creativity, and leadership built in, all grounded in safety and belonging.

Men's Mentoring Team
Single Mom Strong’s Men’s Mentoring Program creates sustained, healthy relationships between caring, positive male role models and school-aged children of single moms. Mentors are screened, trained and supported to meet regularly and consistently with mentees, for about 2.5 hours each month, throughout the school year. At these events, the children are exposed to new ideas and activities, but, most importantly, they are given an example of a man who will consistently show up for them.
